A little about me...

I was born in London in 1961, a child of the ‘swinging sixties’ and somehow I always knew that I would work in the film industry. I was raised in a truly ‘film centric’ house and one of my earliest recollections is watching Fred Astaire glide across the television on a wet afternoon in 1965 whilst my Mum did the ironing…

Jump forward to the late 1970’s and after serving my apprenticeship as a signwriter and pictorial artist I gained my City & Guilds qualification with distinction, I went on to gain an additional NVQ qualification in Graphic Design. As reckless as it may sound on reflection, I took a big chance and bought a one way ticket to Los Angeles at the age of 22 and headed out to Hollywood with my paintbrushes…

A succession of small signwriting jobs came and went until late in 1983 I found myself working for the company that was to become the sign contractor for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. I worked long and hard throughout the summer of 1984 and saved my pennies, worried that I may have to return to the UK, then one day in the late summer of that year I strolled into ‘LA Signs & Graphics’ on Pico Boulevard where I met the man who was to become my mentor and business partner, Michael Kilgallon. Michael was and indeed remains to this day an immensely talented artist and designer, unendingly sought after by some of the biggest names in the business. Michael regularly freelanced for the Paramount Studios sign shop, I was on my way…

A lot has happened in between that day in 1984 and now, I have worked in virtually every capacity within the art department on over 50 major motion pictures, television productions, commercials and music videos both in the United States and in the United Kingdom. I feel honoured to have worked with some of the most celebrated film makers and designers of all time and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I have become a member of The British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) in the Production Design chapter, I have been inducted into the British Film Designers Guild (BFDG) in the category of Graphic Designer and I am the ‘in House’ Set Designer for the Pinewood Group, Europe’s premier film production facility.

I love what I do and I do it well, what more could one ask in ones professional life.
